I loved Portugal. We went to the Algarve. We stayed near Alvor. On one of the walks round this town, I came across these bins. They look like a good idea. Blue bins are for recycling paper. Green takes glass bottles. Yellow takes plastic bottles and metal tins/cans. Brown bins take kitchen waste - not just kitchen peelings but meat and fish as well. The bins look like they are situated over large pits.
I saw these bins elsewhere - next to some of hotels/apartments in Algarve resort towns as well. Makes much more sense than a small blue box I have which is a fortnightly collection of paper/tins/bottles!
